2009-2010 Chevening Scholarship Programme Launched

The British Embassy is now inviting applications for its Chevening Scholarship Programme for the academic year 2009-2010.

These prestigious scholarships are funded by the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office and managed by the British Council. The awards enable graduates and young professionals from Vietnam to undertake postgraduate studies in the UK and gain new expertise for the benefit of their own country. Since 1993, over 250 scholarships have been awarded to outstanding young Vietnamese professionals, who have studied a range of subjects from human rights to banking and finance.

Applications are invited from Vietnamese people nationwide, working in the private sector as well as in government and non-government organisations.

Completed applications must be received at the British Council Hanoi Office by 5 pm on Monday, November 24, 2008.

Speaking about the scholarships, British Ambassador to Vietnam, Mark Kent said: “I consider the Chevening Programme to be one of the most important projects we run in Vietnam. For our Scholarships we aim to select the most talented Vietnamese professionals with the potential to rise to the top of their fields. They are people who can make the most of their study in the UK and will contribute to the development of modern Vietnam when they return".
